                   - Active Puppies

Is this you?

  • New puppy at home and feeling overwhelmed?

  • Not sure if what your puppy is doing is normal?

  • Want to get things right from the beginning so you don't have to undo bad habits later?

This gentle, fun class is designed for puppies aged 8–16 weeks.

We cover all the big early priorities: socialisation, name recognition, toilet training, calm greetings, and how to handle the biting, chewing, and zoomies that come with puppyhood.

Your puppy learns the world is safe and rewarding, and you leave with practical tools that actually work at home.

You'll come away with: a puppy who's socialised and confident; clear guidance on the most common puppy challenges; foundations that set you up for Level 1 and beyond; and the reassurance that you're doing it right.

Open enrolment: join at any point in the 6-week rotation. No waiting for the next course.

New class venue in Partnership with PAWsome Vets in Levin.

I am now running Preschool classes on Saturday mornings at 10am, with the possibility of adding further classes if interest is high enough.

These classes include a tour of the vet clinic, Vet/Vet Nurse puppy health specific info in the Week 1 class (no Puppies - guardians only) and then on to the training side of things from Week 2.

Life Skills - 4 Week Classes
(Open Enrolment)

                   - Foundations & Focus

The starting point for dogs who aren't listening yet, and owners who want real results.

 Is this you?

  • Your dog ignores you the moment something more interesting appears?

  • You're using treats but it's just not clicking?

  • You want a solid, enjoyable foundation before bad habits set in?

This is where everything starts:

Level 1 is designed for puppies (from 4 months), adolescents, and adult dogs new to training, or those who need a reset.

Using games and positive reinforcement, you'll learn how to become the most interesting thing in your dog's world.

We build engagement, clear communication, and genuine focus, not just obedience under pressure.

You'll come away with:  confidence using food, toys and play as real motivators; the basics of loose lead walking and recall; calm handling and relationship; and a dog who actually wants to work with you.

Also suits dogs who've done basic training elsewhere and need to strengthen their foundations.

Level 1

Tink & Potter Boundary Bed

When?

Mondays 6pm  - Ohau, Levin

Max 5 dogs per class

$160

4-week open enrolment block

          - Active Life Skills

For dogs who are good at home, but fall apart in the real world.

 Is this you?

  • Does your dog do brilliantly in the lounge, but the moment you step outside, everything you've taught them disappears?

  • Does a passing dog, a cyclist, or a dropped chip send them into orbit?

This is where we head next:

Level 2 is where training gets tested.

We add movement, real distractions, and genuine life situations to the skills your dog built in Level 1 (or equivalent).

The focus is on reliability, not just performing behaviours in ideal conditions, but making good choices when things get exciting.

You'll come away with:  a dog who is starting to walk nicely even when the world is distracting; a recall that becomes more reliable in the park; impulse control that holds under pressure; and the confidence to handle your dog in everyday situations without constantly micromanaging.

Prerequisite:  Level 1 or equivalent foundation skills.

Not sure? Get in touch, and we'll chat.

Level 2

               - Real-World Ready

Out of the training paddock and into the real world, with a dog you can trust.

 Is this you?

  • Your dog is well-trained at home and at class, but you still feel nervous taking them to the café, the beach, or a busy park?

  • You want a dog you can genuinely relax with, not one you're constantly managing?

This is where we head next:

Level 3 takes everything off the training field and puts it to work in real environments: parks, town centres, walking tracks, and café settings.

We don't teach new tricks here. Instead, we proof and strengthen what your dog already knows, adapting each session to the actual challenges your team faces.

You'll come away with:  a dog who stays calm and focused in busy public spaces; real confidence in environments that used to feel unpredictable; and the skills to handle whatever real life throws at you.

Prerequisite: Level 1 & 2 or equivalent (Active Dogs classes from previous years).

Ideal for owners who want to enjoy their dog, not just manage them.

Trick Training

Learning disguised as pure fun and a better bond with your dog.

 Is this you?

  • Want to do more with your dog beyond basic sit and stay?

  • Looking for something that's genuinely fun for both of you?

  • Have a clever dog who needs more mental challenge?

What you'll get from this class:

Trick training isn't just party pieces; it's one of the best ways to build your dog's confidence, focus, and enthusiasm for learning.

From crowd-pleasing classics to genuinely useful everyday skills, we use positive reinforcement to create a dog who's excited to engage with you.

Great for shy dogs who need their confidence boosted, clever dogs who need more challenge, and any team looking for a joyful connection.

You'll come away with:  a repertoire of impressive (and practical) tricks; a dog who's more engaged and enthusiastic; and the training skills to keep building at home. A Trick Dog Title or two if that's your goal!

Trick Dog Indtructor

Intro to Scentwork

Tap into the superpower your dog was born with.

 Is this you?

  • Have a busy-brained dog who's always switched on and hard to settle?

  • Want to do something genuinely different together?

  • Looking for an activity that works for any age, breed, temperament or fitness level?

What you'll get from this class:

Scentwork is one of the most enriching and calming activities you can do with your dog, because it lets them do what they were built to do: use their nose.

In this introductory class, your dog learns to search for a target scent, build independent problem-solving skills, and focus in a new way.

Afterwards, many dogs are noticeably calmer and more satisfied.

It's remarkably inclusive, brilliant for anxious dogs, older dogs, recovering dogs, and high-drive dogs alike.

You'll come away with:  a dog who can search and indicate on a target scent; an activity you can practice anywhere; and a new appreciation for just how extraordinary your dog's nose really is.

Prerequisite: For dogs 4 months+ and have completed at least one other class with Active Dogs or equivalent elsewhere.

This class is for experienced dogs and handlers to build skills

  • Must have completed 1-2 Intro classes and/or currently be competing or at a level that could compete
